• Child Protection Policy

      • Following is the basic

        1. Application:

        This Policy applies to all Staff, Members of the La Salle Technical College, Board and volunteers working in the School.

        2. Rationale

        As a School of Faith and Family, the La Salle Technical College - Community is committed to:

        1. Practicing and teaching skills and attitudes of nonviolence;

        2. Raising awareness of violence against women and vulnerable children;
        3. Develop and maintaining good and strong hearts among all members;
        4. Acting with justice and compassion in all situations;
        5. Encourage students to have the courage to act in all situations.

         

        3. Policy Statement

        This Policy has five main strands:

        1. To ensure the La Salle Technical College practices safe recruitment in checking the suitability of staff to work with children

        2. To raise awareness of child protection issues and equip students with the skills needed to keep them safe

        3. To develop and implement procedures for identifying and reporting cases and suspected cases of abuse

        4. To support students who have been abused

        5. To establish a safe environment in which students can learn and develop

         

        4. Policy procedures

        These following procedures are to ensure the implementation of the Policy.

        1. The Staff Selection Committee of the La Salle Technical College's Board will ensure appropriate checks are made about the suitability of staff to work with children.

        2. The La Salle Technical College's Administration will ensure the appropriate Units of the PDHPE syllabus are taught, to ensure students are equipped with the skills needed to keep them safe. The La Salle Technical College's Anti Bullying campaign will continue on a permanent basis. The LaSalle Technical College's  Anti Violence campaign will be further developed and implemented.

        3. The Deputy Principal of Administration, Head Teachers and La Salle Technical College Counsellors are  trained to identify cases and suspected cases of abuse. The reporting requirements of the Lukautim Pikinini Act  will be followed. The reporting and other requirements of the Catholic Church’s protocols on Right Relations will be followed.                                

        4. The Principal, Deputy Principals Administration & Academic and La Salle Technical College Counsellors will work with any student who has been abused to help develop an appropriate response.  Liaison with other Agencies such as Social Welfare and Community Development are encouraged.

        5. The Pastoral Care and Behavior Management policy and procedures of the La Salle Technical College are designed to support the continuous improvement in child safety in the College.
